Motorsport was something that I was always interested in, but something I didn’t think was possible to compete in unless you had a lot of money. After moving to Coffs Harbour a few years ago, I joined the local Sporting Car Club, and realised that you don’t need a flash car or lots of money to have an enormous amount of fun in motorsport.
I now have a 1975 Galant that is used for motorkhanas and khanacross. After experimenting on the dirt for about 12 months, I invested in a Hyundai Lantra rally car and have started to compete in rallying. Lots of fun, but a little more expensive, especially when you have an “incident” with a bank and break things!
I’ve also competed in Hillclimbs, which again is a great entry level into motorsport as a standard car can be used.
When I’m not working or competing in my car, I ride a Triumph Daytona motorbike, which is a great stress reliever.
My advice for any women wanting to get involved – Just Do It! Don’t listen to those who say you can’t, join a supportive club and go for it!
